    Coolant Flush Procedure

I am planning on replacing my coolant with Zerex GO5. Are there any procedures to stay away from, or practices for or against? I am planning on having a local shop perform the work.
    Thanks in advance!

Make sure they pull the block drains - both sides. They are often frozen. A six point socket is best, and there is often debris bottom that must be dug out to allow the coolant to drain out.

The system can be flushed by pulling the heater inlet hose off the inlet manifold. Then the heater core can be foward flushed and the engine reverse flushed.

      Thanks Duke,
I was thinking about doing mine this weekend. I've got only about 7k on my rebuild. I know the block pulgs were out then hope they have not frozen up yet. So I'll ask a follow up, I have the green stuff in there now with out searching archives what's the best replacement now it's flushed. CA car driven 327 300hp auto if that makes a differance. Also what size 6 point?

        Kevin,

A six point socket as opposed to a twelve point socket. All bolts and pipe fittings have six point configuration, hence a six point socket will afford more surface contact between tool and fastener. Duke makes a good point regarding that pipe plug, a twelve point socket will likely round off the hex where a six point may not.

        Best,

        Mark

          Mark,

I ment 1/2" 3/4"?. I'm buying one to do it right. Do you also open the bottom of the radiator or just block and top hose?

Use Zerex G-05 - two gallons and fill the rest with distilled water. That will give you about a 50/50 blend.

The block plugs should be no problem if they were out two years ago. Install them with pipe dope compound to about 10 lb-ft - just snug, not really tight. As long as they don't leak, which is unlikely with pipe dope, they'll stay put.

IIRC the block plugs are 9/16" hex.
