Fellow Members,
I've been asked as to go and evaluate a supposed 1967 427/435 Corvette convertible this weekend and from the little bit of info I've gotten tells me that it is not a real 435 car. The interested buyer is in Pennsylvania and contacted me via the NCRS chapter directory and asked if I would help evaluate the car. I believe that there is another potential non-original 435 '67 Corvette here in Omaha. The seller (a local dealer) is selling it on consignment for the current owner who is rather vague in his knowledge about the car. The owner before that is also here in Omaha and bought the car in 1989 and owned it until 1992 selling it to the now current owner. I plan to contact both to ask some questions about the cars' history as they tell it.
I have a few questions and requests for you as guys...
The first being the number written on the tank sticker, is this the "job" number that can also be found written on the inside of the door behind the door panel? There is a tanks sticker with the car, I can send it via email to anyone who would like to look at it and give me their opinion. I believe this may not be original either.
Currently this car does not have a TI ignition system, which it should have had IF it was a real 435 car. My hunch is that this car was originally a 390 or 400 hp car with the standard ignition. I know there are different coil and distributor numbers. The TI box should be or should have been mounted on the left side inner fender ahead of the core support. Is this a good way to tell if the car was an original 435 hp car since the TI was standard? I know the TI was an option for the 390 and 400 hp cars, but is there a good way to tell even if the TI stuff is gone whether or not the car had it originally? Anything to look for regarding the mounting holes or wiring harness?
I have pictures of the car and tank sticker that I can send to anyone who emails me.
Thanks,
James West
