    Aluminum Valve covers

My 1957 aluminum valve covers are in need of restoring.

I dont want to bead blast them. I remember in the driveline a few years ago about a place that etched or reskined them to appear as new.

    Can anybody help?

    Thanks.

    Dave -

Unfortunately, that outfit closed up shop and left the hobby - if anyone finds another place that can do what Don Dorfman's old shop did, please post the info - I have three sets of '57 covers just sitting waiting to be restored.

There has been quite a bit of discussion surrounding this restoration in the past. As John noted the place you referred to is out of business. However, passed suggestions were to use naval jelly and a scotch brite pad or fine steel wool to restore the original finish. I have just used this method on my 60 and was quite satisfied with the end results. It took a half dozen applications and lots of elbow grease but I've ended up with a pretty good looking pair of covers. I hope this helps. Good luck. Larry

John/David - Don Dorfman submitted a post to the DB on Dec 22 saying he was looking for new projects and asked for contacts. Check the archives, but at that time he listed his email as ddorfman7654@my-deja.com I sure hope he is back in business as he did a great job on my aluminum manifold. Good luck in raising him, Dick

Don Dorfman can also be contacted through Paul Baker(the "Pulley King") at Goat Hill Restoration Products in Long Beach, CA if direct e-mail contact fails.
