    Windshield washer tube C3 detached

The windshield washer spray tube on my 73 has come loose from the tab on the windshield arm itself. It appears as if this was soldered originally. Does anyone have any experience with getting these fixed down again? All of the hold down tabs are in place up and down the arm. It is the last inch or so that has become detached.

Charles my original owner 70 had the same problem over 30 years ago. I just took a piece of thin guage wire and secured it. It is still like that today. Only took a couple of minutes to do this. If I wanted to secure it I would try some JB Weld. Mayby someday I will try it.

      Charles,

I had the same problem with my 69. I agree that they appeared to be soldered on. I was able to clean up the tubes, the surrounding area and re-solder them. Takes a little patients, but looks correct and original. I also painted the arms semi-flat black to maintain the finished.

Yes, tube was originally soldered to the 'button hook' on the arm. The solder joint typically breaks due to one of two stress factors:

        (1) The plastic clips holding the tube to the arm have weathered and failed (new reproduction clips are available from Paragon) causing the tube to work against the solder joint as the arm moves.

        (2) There's a subtile difference in the geometry of the original blade holders vs. what's currently available from Trico today as service replacements. This results in the top of the blade interfering with the RH side washer tube and perhaps not sitting as flat/flush with the windshield glass.

Remove the arm assy and re-solder the joint. Tip: using a torch and silver solder vs. common electrical solder gets a superior joint. Also, as another suggested, JB Weld works too. But, should the washer tube finally fracture and need to be replaced, the epoxy joint is harder to clean-up/remove vs. solder...
