I can find plenty of drunk old men trying to impress strangers right here in Mobile.
That isn't a car show. It's a circus, complete with clowns, hucksters, and freaks of all kinds. -

I wonder how many 67 435h.p. cars are going to be at Kissimmee at the Mecum auction? At the rate that these car's keep turning up I would think the value's should be in the toilet by now.But as someone once said there is a fool born every minute.TomComment

There could be several hundred in the making! Go figure, pretty soon the low perf 1967's will be the only ones that you can be sure are original!
On the other hand, it scares me because I have owned a basket case 1969 L88 for 9 or 10 years now and when I finally get around to restoring it, nobody will ever believe it's real! Yes, it has pretty much all the original parts and build sheet, was taken off the road in 1978 and never driven again - so nobody "knows" it. What's a guy to do?

Remember the Black on Red 435 Coupe at 163K. Orginally early build Silver on Black 327 NOM. I think Roy B. pointed it out. The car was created by an Ohio Dealer (NOT Pro-Team.) I only found out because they contacted me about my 67 L-79 (Built on the last producton day July 67.) Why anyone would pay the costs of these auctions with the 3-plus pages of disclaimers amazes me.Comment

I think you just have to accept the fact that there are all kinds of people out there and in a country this big with this much wealth there are a lot of them. It is to some degree unfortunate that it is happening. I guess it make the world go around. Buyer's beware thing is for real when it comes to buying a restored car. I like original unrestored untouched stuff. I like the process of finding stuff and I think you can get better deals days. You have a good chance of finding a rough diamond, something that is not all pretty and shinny but is original. They are out there. There are also people that for whatever reason feel more comfortable selling their car to someone that will appreciate it. Later, TerryComment

The BJ auction is revolting. Sorry if that sounds harsh. The performance of that MORON last year on the prototype Oldsmobile says it all. I am sure there are MANY, MANY fine people who attend the show and who are serious buyers but I for one would NEVER buy a car, no matter what it is from the auction. I do not think it helps our hobby at all. I think it invites a dishonest element who views the current $$$$ situation as a way to "get over". Just my .02.Comment
