    Re: heli - coil

It looks like the original. Only the threads are over size. It cost about $10 years back (probably $20 now). No need to remove the carb. from the car. It took less than 5 mins. to install and I had a leak free carb. once again.

if you screw up putting in the auto parts

oversized one you can not install the heli coil and the float bowl is scrap. most carb shops charge $40/50 to install the heli coil and it should be done in a milling machine to do it correctly.

I guess it comes down to your ability to do your own work. I don't believe that the oversize fitting (only slightly oversize) is so large that if it doesn't work, you can't still have a heli-coil installed as it will still need to be bored out and retapped to install the heli-coil.

you have to get the threads in straight

or the external gasket will not seal to the carb body. i would insert a 7/8"-20 bottom tap into the orignal threads and then grip the tap shank in the drill chuck on the milling machine to square up the main body before tighting up the milling machine vise so when i installed the heli coil it would the straight. i had to fix a few that had the auto parts oversize one installed that leaked and it made it much more difficult on my part to square thing up.

Be aware, this process does cut the threads a little deeper. That means there are metal shavings in the carb inlet. You should clean them out or they will end up in the carburetor and engine.
