C1 Tie Rod and Tie Rod Ends

The judging guide for 1959 says the tie rods and the tie rod ends should not be painted. Is this still the way they should be? A note on my flight judge sheet said, tie rod ends only should not be painted. Just want to be sure before I clean off the paint. Thanks, Jimmy

This is a tough subject. I am doing my 5th 58-60 for judging and this time I have the tie rod ends and steering nuckles natural. I called the team leader and was told to do it this way and also the tie rod clamps should be natural. My last two cars I painted the entire front end assembly with no deducts. The front end seems to vary greatly by different judges. Good luck

I go for the unpainted vote..including the pittman arm & third arm bearing assembly. I have noted the steering gear housing being unpainted & painted semi-gloss black.
