Re: 21 trailers of old cars & parts found in Wisco

Now 2million. Mecum wanted a piece of it but the guy wants to sell the whole package. No auctions and no piece at a time. He is still waiting for some high rollers from the west coast to come in. The more media this gets the higher the price will get. Boy I would love to be worth millions now, just to have all those rare cars and NOS parts. This whole deal is almost sureal.

Considering the exposure this is getting...

I'd expect the price to go MUCH higher than $2M

But consider the headaches that would come along with the deal...Considering the fact that virtual everyone in the Chevy hobby knows it now exists..

Where do you stash everything without worring it will be partially stolen?

When do you get sick of phone calls asking "do you have a xyz part for sale?"...and if so, can you check the casting numbers?...

Just to inventory this stuff would be a nightmare...fun for a couple of weeks, but beyond that I'm afraid it would eventually haunt a normal person to the brink of insanity.

And don't forget our friends at the IRS... recon they know about it yet?

No one has mentioned paperwork with this find. Just the stolen shopping carts could get you 5 to 10 in the Big House.

Brian, great minds think a like. I was thinking the same thing when I saw those "mobile engine stands".

              Where's the money?

I don't see $2 million in those photos. This is a nice stash, but I think some of you guys are grossly over-estimating its value.

I doubt there's even $1.5 million in RETAIL value if every vehicle has its original drivetrain as well as a nice, rust-free (Wisconsin?) body, and 100% of those engines have factory stamped performance blocks. And what are the odds of that?

Then you have the problem of hauling / storing / selling a bunch of semi-cheap heavy crap. Used cranks? A dune buggie? A seventy-something Camaro?

Jerry Jerry Jerry.....You've got to throw out that

                commom sense attitude of yours...

In today's nutcake environment, the pair jack stands in the trunk of that gold shovel will bring $500 alone because of their association with this lot of performance parts.

Afterall, that 63 coupe has a VIRGIN bare body and looks like everything is there to turn it into a top notch ZO6.

                EeeeGads man.. use your imagination!

I have been told that 171 67-9 L88s have been accounted for.

I'd have thought that there were at least 300 or more of the original 216 accounted for by now. I watched in horror as the NCRS Top Flighted an alledgedly known 67 L88 clone at the Regional meet in Atlanta in about 1990 (give or take a year) over the howls of protest from several people with firsthand knowledge/information of the car. It was a yellow roadster and the person who brought it was also judging midyears that year (gasp). I don't remember much else about it except there was a big controversy surrounding it, but it got the blue ribbon anyhow. I don't really have any real problems with clones as long a people don't seek to give em credibility as anything other than a replica.

I ran across a similar situation with a car for sale at Bloomington in either 88 or 89. A Corvette dealer from Nebraska had a 67 L89 roadster (red) there for sale for whatever the top of the market was at that time...... seems like 150 to 200K if I recall. He even had a build sheet which wasn't as widely repro'd at that time as they are now. He was claimin' absolute authenticity and original engine. A friend there with me with his 67 coupe was real interested in the car and I talked him into waiting until we got home to pursue it. I thought the pad stamping was REAL iffy. Another friend, in law enforcement was able to trace the MSO back to a dealer in one of the Carolinas. (apparently the Feds keep MSO records on file indefinately, but no subsequent transfers) Anyhow, the dealership had changed hands, but the son in law of the original dealer was still there and he went into their files and found the original records on the car. It started life as 300 horse and had been sold locally when new. I believe the dealer at Bloomington knew the history because he became irate when I confronted him by phone with it, and continued to advertise the car in Hemmings as an authentic L89 for some time after that.

A few years ago I was searching for a 67 SS 396 Chevelle. Happened to speak with a gentleman who over the course of the conversation, told me the urban ledgend L-88 top flight story. He alledgedly built it. I have no reason to doubt him. My old H.S 58 dual quad 270HP Vette now resides in Conn. Recieved Duntov back in 92-95 or so. When I saw it was a 230HP. The owner claimed it was the original engine. Funny my ol man took the dual quads off in 72 ran a 2-barrel carb got 20MPG. So much for original.
