    1967

I recently purchased a matching #s 67 427/435hp and I have put the car at a restoration shop. It has chrome valve covers on it and I have never seen a 435 with them before--I have a freind who said he bought one of these cars when they were new and he said he thinks he remembers that his were chrome-The man who who owns the resto shop also says he believes that some had chrome-can anyone varify?
Also, originally this was not a sidepiped car and I was wondering if I were to put them on would that affect the judging of the car later
Im sure I'll have many more questions during this process so thanks for the help!!

    David-----

The only verified use of chrome valve covers for 1967 big blocks was for cars with the L-71/L-89 engine option (engine suffic code "JH"). I would not rule out the possibility that some VERY late big blocks of other RPO's might have had them, but I really doubt it. In any event, I don't think that the chrome valve covers would be NCRS-accepted for any 1967 big block except an L-71/L-89 unless you could provide some sort of documentation of their originality. Of course, for something like this, it would be next to impossible to do that.

      Hello David,
Joe had responded to answer you posting. He gave you the Caifornia version engine siffix code. There were only 2 made of the JH code. The other version engine suffix code is IU. There only 14 made to orders built. The total was 16 L-89 made for 1967. What state did the guy take delivery of the 1967 Corvette.
What body style cpe or conv? What paint-trim colors? What month of the years did he take deivery and the dealers name?
      Regards,

if the 67 didn't leave the factory with outside exhaust and you retrofit it with outside exhaust, you'll wish you hadn't the first time it is NCRS judged. there is a significant deduction and you might as well radio-delete the 67 while you're at it as all you'll hear is the rumble of the outside exhaust. good luck, mike

            Dave-----

Only on the aluminum head L-71/L-89 for 1967. So, there were only 16 1967 Corvettes that ever had chrome valve covers. Keep in mind that the addition of chrome valve covers to an engine not originally so-equipped was always quite popular. It's very easy to do, too.
