'62 FI green coil wire length

I'm repairing a factory injected '62 Corvette from New Orleans for the original owner. I brought it from N.O. to my shop in Mobile two weeks before the hurricane. Yes, that timing was pure luck.

Anyway... many years ago the owner installed a crimp-on terminal at the ignition coil end of the green wire from the ballast resister. I'm going to replace that aftermarket terminal with an original F-shaped brass terminal, but I'm not sure how long to make the green wire. I think the owner shortened this wire considerably when he did his terminal changeout.

Would someone with a factory injected '58 - '62 Corvette please measure their original green wire that runs from the ballast resister to the coil and post the length? I'm guessing it will be about 18", but I'm basing that only on what appears to route gracefully to the inboard side of the coil.

Thanks for your help on this.

If it is part number 2971521 in the assy manual, the overall length is 11.5 inches. Same part for carb and FI, at least per the Engineering parts list for 1961 in my file.

      Wiring difference

Thanks for looking in your manuals.

However, the ignition coil on an injected '57 through '62 Corvette sits much further from the ballast resistor than on a carbureted car. With the FI option, the coil was moved to the left and in front of the distributor. An 11.5" green wire won't make it that far.

        Re: Wiring difference

I know that, but there is no reference in the AIM to a specific part number for the FI. BTW, I just pulled the Dist cover on my '62 FI car and it measures 11.5! The routing is behind the distribitor and the coil is rotated to put the + terminal toward the firewall. Has all the appearance of being the original wire for the car.

Then that's the length I'll use.

My earlier comment isn't true. The straight line measurement terminal-to-terminal (and through the cap) is actually 10.5". The green wire resister terminal on this car faces away from the coil. An 11.5" wire is still long enough to span this distance and get around the distributor cap. It just doesn't sag much.

            Same way mine looks.
