    5 Leaf Spring on a 68 BB

I have an early production 68 427 with a 5 leaf rear spring. Is this the original spring? I see references to a 5 leaf "Daytona" spring but I'm thinking the original was a 7 leaf. Thanks

"Daytona or Gymkhana Spring" Pt# 3986033

It appears you have Chevrolet's "over the counter", often refered to as the, "Daytona or Gymkhana Spring". Part number 3986033 located in chart drawing 3827453. Check the individual leaf cross section: leaves 1 thru 5 .323 thick and spacer .307 thick. This spring along with other performance versions were manufactured by Eaton Corporation or Ontario Steel Products (Later known as Rockwell International), depending on the supplier of record for a particular model year. These springs were common during the sixties and with the addition of a "single" traction bar certainly was the "ticket" at all locals gymkhanas.

    Hope this helps.
