    New birth calculator

    Hi all,

I've build a new brithday calculator on the C1 Registry site, currently for 57-62 model years. To get it more accurate I need to know all American holidays which would be a typical day the factory was closed. I also persumed that on Sundays the factory was not running.

I already included Independance day (7/4), X-mas (12/25) and New Year Day as non factory days. Are there any other days I should consider (standard holidays or factory strikes).

PS We will open shortly a C2 registry as well (based on the same software) which will also include the C2 birthday calender. I'm just working on the last details for the site.

    greetings,
    Rob.

    Nice Going Rob!
There is also Labor Day (first monday in Sept), Thanksgiving Day and its Friday after (last weekend in Nov), Memorial Day (May 30). Not sure when the factories began being shut down between Christmas and New Years.

      Hi Don,

Thanks for your help. I have Labor Day and Memorial Day in now as well but I don't understand your explaination on Thanksgiving Day. Could you retry explaining it a bit clearer ?

      thanks,

Thanks, would all these holidays be a non-factory day?

Work schedules may or may not be affected by these holidays.

            * New Year's Day, January 1st.

            * Birthday of Martin Luther King, third Monday in January.

            * Inauguration Day, January 20th every four years, starting in 1937.

            * Washington's Birthday, third Monday in February since 1971; prior to that year, it was celebrated on the traditional date of February 22.

            * Inauguration Day, March 4th every four years, pre-1937.

            * Armed Forces Day, third Saturday in May.

            * Memorial Day, last Monday in May since 1971; from 1868 to 1970 it was celebrated on May 30, and was called Decoration Day for part of that time.

            * Flag Day, June 14th.

            * United States of America's Independence Day, July 4.

            * Labor Day, first Monday in September.

            * Columbus Day, second Monday in October (federal holiday since 1971).

            * Election Day, Tuesday on or after November 2.

            * Veterans Day, November 11th (except from 1971 to 1977, inclusive, when it was celebrated on the fourth Monday in October; formerly known as Armistice).

            * Thanksgiving Day, fourth Thursday in November.

            * Christmas Day, December 25th. I have finally included this since it is a federal holiday, although it is not based on a secular holiday.

            greetings,
            Rob.

              1. Many of the holidays you have listed above were not days off. The plant would also have been closed for strikes and planned shut-downs. Some plants in the US have planned shut downs around Christmas time. Some companies also shut down the day before or after major holidays. Not sure about scheduled overtime, weekend work, and second shifts.

              2. The late Dale Pearman told me that he had the St. Louis daily or weekly production records by serial number. I believe he said that some other NCRS members also had those records.

                All,

I've now inserted X-Mas, New Year's Day, Independance Day, Labor Day and Memorial Day.

Would Thanksgiving defenitely be a non-working day?

What about Saturdays, work days or not?

Has anyone any record on strikes or (planned) shut down days for the C1 and C2 production period?

                greetings,
                Rob.

Thanksgiving is the FOURTH Thursday of November - not the last Thursday.

Thanksgiving would definitley be a non-working day and most likey the day after Thanksgiving making for a 4 day off time when combined with the following Sat and Sun. Like this year the Corvette plant is shut down for a week Christmas week. Old records would have to be obtained to document all the non work days that the St Louis plant had with not only the actual holiday, but the days prior to and after the actual holiday.

in the '65 MY for the C2's, there was a labor strike in Oct. '64 and it must be for the entire month as the '65 JG has no VIN numbers at all listed for that month

                        Jim,

Ok, I've got all the Thanksgiving Days in as well now, I'm not sure what to do about the following Fridays without harder evidence...

                        greetings,

                          All,

Was the strike/shutdown realy during the whole month (so 1st of Oct till 31 of Oct) or did it start/end on a different date?

                          greetings,

I know in 1963 till ? Christmas and New years we worked 1/2 day before both Christmas and New Years so before that it may have been this way or only the holiday. They would also close plants for inventory adjustment at this time if orders were in short supply. I would say GM did not get the Friday after Thanksgiving off in 53-62 I think it was much later.

                              Rob,

Try the Corvette Birthday, available through the NCRS. I have all of the holidays accounted for in this book. If will also give you a chance to test your dates. Remember there were several of the early years that production runs were not a simple calculation of the number of work days and total number of cars for that month. Specifically 1957, I received weekly totals from records that Jim Frackes had. Have fun and good luck.
