    72 BB antidiesel solenoid

I need to know the dimensions of the solenoid and the part number if any stamped on it. The AIM is not helping me.

Re: Look in AIM in RPO section in the back

      Geoffrey and Melissa-----

I don't think that the solenoid is shown in the 1972 AIM. I think that by 1972 it may have been supplied with the carburetor assembly. Either way, the 1972 solenoid is GM #111444. However, I don't know, for sure, if this was the number stamped on PRODUCTION solenoids. For earlier solenoids, the PRODUCTION part number was 1114418 while SERVICE solenoids were 1114421. These were the same solenoids but for whatever reason, they had different numbers. I don't know if that "discrepency" was the same for 1972, or not.

Re: Look in AIM in RPO section in the back

Heres my take on the solenoid situation:
        1968 until 2/68........1114418
        1968 after 2/68-1969 1114421
        1970...................none
        1971...(CEC)...........1114444
        1972...................1114450
        1973-74 w/350..........1997409
        1973-74 w/454..........1997417

          Agree with Sal...

the 1114444 was the one-year only CEC solenoid for Corvette. There's some confusion about '72 on this issue because the 'feature' continued to be used in '72 on Chevy 6-cylinder engines (a 'rare' Corvette option) perhaps to 'burn up' existing inventories. But, it was NOT used on 8-cylinder or any Corvette.

Doc, I'm not sure you are looking up the correct number. 1114450 (1972) not 1111450 was available over the counter. 1114444 (1971 CEC) has vacuum ports on it 1114450 is electric only.

                  Doc,

Beautiful picture of the part for a 71, but not correct for a 72.

While I don't know big blocks, I would suggest that the part is the same as on my 72 small block, pictured below:

                    Patrick-----

Is there any part number appearing anywhere on the solenoid?

I could let you know the next time I get near the car, but I do not think there is any number on it.
This photo just came out of the archive of a couple hundred pictures I have of my 72. It's easier to look at them on my hard drive then drive 20 minutes to my parents' home and check out the car.

Yes, but Autozone doesn't sell Bowtie awards.

And there are days I'd love to figure out how to paint only the areas that have lost paint and have it all still look good. But I haven't, so it stays like this.
