Would like advice on tires for my 69

I'm trying to decide which tires to get for my "little" project here and I'm hoping that you all can point me in the right direction. My goal for the car is a Top Flight however I don't really want bias tires on it because it will be Sunday driver type of car. Also, the tank sticker said it originaly had white stripe tires but I think the red lines look great with the Cortez Silver so I'm leaning towards the red lines even though this car didn't have them. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think there will be any point deduct for switching from white strip to red strip so I should be okay with this. Maybe I'm asking too much but is there a red line radial that looks like a bias?? If not then what do you guys recommend and from which supplier? Thanks.

I would buy two sets of wheels and have a set with tires for judging and a set for driving.

When I first got my '68 many years ago, with stock rims and stock-type tires, I discovered it corners not as well as a Vega GT. Replacing the wheels and tires immediately rectified that.

Or get the good street tires and accept the deduction.

Greg, I also have a Silver '69 and mine originally came with redlines which I also think looks great. At the time, Coker did not make a 70 series redline radial so I went with Diamond Back redlines made from a Firestone radial and they look great and I haven't had any problems (other than scrapping one against the curb once ). Diamond Back uses an original tire and then vulcanizes the redline onto it. They look great but I would imagine will have more potential damage from curb scrapes than one which was not made in this manner. Coker has recently come out with a 70 series radial redline so you also have another option to explore now.

Hey Greg, The tank sticker is not refered to in judging. I don't know the exact wording but,... your car must APPEAR factory correct. As long as your tires are correct for that year, you are OK.

          greg,

others can offer advice on the red/white stripe tires (i personally would go with the radial version). as far as street driven tires (modern radials)there are several tire sizes/brands to use. on my 69 i have 245 60-15 bf goodrich ta's and am very happy with them (how they look in the wheel well, handling). these are the largest size (245) you can go with on a 69 without rubbing/interference. just my .02......

Well thanks for you advice. I think I'll check into the Diamond Back or Coker tires to see what they have.
