    C2 Local Painter

I have a 65 2 top roadster. I have completely rebuilt the chassis/suspension and the interior. I must add that many of you have been a tremendous help in all of my little home garage projects, for which I am very thankful. The car is now running and driving very well, so what's next? The car needs to be painted, and I am looking for someone in the Charlotte NC area that can do it. I don't need a show car paint job, and the car will probably never make it to the judging field. Can anyone suggest a body shop in my area that can strip seal and paint the car? Also I know there are some surprises under the existing paint, and I know there is no way to estimate the cost of body work before stripping. But can you share cost estimates for the stripping and paint work?

    Thanks in advance,

    George

Why not do it yourself? You said you don't need a show paint job, and there is nothing like standing there looking at yourself in paint you sprayed on yourself.

You are looking at $2000 to $4000 easily to have someone paint it and the extra of stripping it your way will add more.

You can spend about $500 or so in supplies and do it at home.

If you can't do it in your garage (attached to the house, too much inside to cover, wife will kill you, etc.), you can build a paint booth outside. A conduit-type canopy will keep stuff from falling on you, some tarps or plastic for sides, several fans to suck the fumes and paint out, and you are set.

Also, check around your local area with the local clubs or your buddies. Maybe someone would like to get in on a fun project.

George, strip the paint off yourself. It's easy (messy, but easy). Once the paint is off you will know what needs work and what just needs new paint.

If I were to hire someone to do bodywork and paint, I would want to know what needs to be done.

          Mike, Louis, Mark,
Thank you all for your input. I have actually stripped a 59, and a 70 Corvette many years ago, and then had the paint work done by a Corvette shop, I lived in CT back then. The stripping work is messy, but as stated not real difficult. As far as building a spray booth and doing it myself, I don't feel qualified with my years of rattle can painting experience, but it is something to think about. There are so many decsions to be made, what kind of paint etc.

          Thanks again,

          George
