A friend has come across a 3963512 block in the trunk of a Camaro he purchased.The #s on the pad are T10232cu.The date code on the block is G 21 9.shouldnt the last three figures on the front pad all be letters?

The 3 alpha character suffix coding did not begin until 1970. Prior to that, 2 alpha character codes were generally used. This block was cast in July, 1969 and could have been used in a very late 1969 or an early 1970.
However, I can find no code of "CU" or "CU" together with a third alpha character that was used for any big block application in the period.In Appreciation of John Hinckley -

is it possible you accidentally transposed 2CU to CZU (the 2 and Z are similar)?

I have not personally looked at this block.He did go ahead and purchase the car it came with.Hopefully I will get to see it soon.The only problem with it being a czu is that this is a 4 bolt main block.I was under the impression all 70 390hp 454s were 2 bolt mains,but maybe someone has different info

I don't know the codes for Chevelles (LS6)
If the block was used by a racer, it was a common modification to add the 4 bolt mains. Usually, they didn't bother to enlarge the oil passages over the oil filter pad.
