    1st Bloomington Survivor 57

    Mike

Below is a picture of my 57 that I owned for 20 years. I bought it from a lady in St.Louis whose Husband had passed away. I think they bought the car in 64 and I bought it in 84.

I really liked that car because it was original. Each time I would show up a car show..I would get asked when are you going to restore it? My answer was..that I liked it the way it was.

In 1990 when Bloomington started Survivor I entered the 57 and it became the 1st Bloomington Survivor '57 and I believe it was the only 57 to get the award for the first 5 years ..but I could be wrong.

I am sure there were and are other unrestored 57's that stand taller than old #4353 but it sure was fun to own...and keep unrestored. Now that NCRS has gone through a 30 + year maturing process..these not so pretty unrestored cars are coming into there own...and bring a large premium.

After finding and buying the Nassau/Daytona car I decided to sell old #4353 and it is now owned by a friend in Texas that has the same appreciation for it. I'm Glad.

The boy on the car is my son..who some of you have met. He is now a sophomore in college.

    PS..

Some weeks or months ago..I read a post that made what I thought was a somewhat negative comment about show and tell posts. This made me hesitate to make a post like this. However..last night I was going through some old original CLASSIC CORVETTE CLUB NEWS from 1971 that included many pictures, stories and vin's from owners of 1953, 1954 and 1955 car owners. This type information is really valuable 35 years later and maybe there is a way to encorage it.

    Just a thought!

I also like these type of posts. It provides an education and an alternative to "restoration".

I received 4 films on DVD with 2 more to come after they get transferred to DVD.

One shows the 1957 160 mile Nascar Daytona Beach race.

Watching the film..I learned that Paul Goldsmith who drove my car at New Smyrna to 1st place..was the guy driving the fuel injected Chevy #3 leading the 160 mile Daytona race..until he burned a piston with a few laps to go. There was a ditch developing on the North Turn and his engine went after hitting the ditch hard.

            I received:

            The Sand Barrier
1957 Newsclips... which includes the 57 Sebring race
            Corvette's 1957 #2
            Chevrolet Action Release #3

              Thanks, Joe.

I enjoyed the picture. You are right, 40 years from now, someone will be researching this black '57 he bought from an estate sale and be overjoyed when he hits a copy of this in the archive.

As many get credited for saying, they are only original once.
