C3 Valve Cover Decal Placement

I'm interested in the placement of the black on yellow valve cover decal (3 digit engine id) for my '71 LT-1. I have a picture of a members all original 350-270 '71 with the decal on the right front valve cover, just above the engine stamp. I thought these were normally on the right rear.

Can anybody confirm the correct location for my '71?

We would normally expect to see the decal on the rear of the right hand valve cover.

Although I've seen the "double" sticker on more than one car and owned by different individuals.

I've also seen the "front and rear" stickers on two different cars owned by the same person, but I won't guarantee that both cars originally came with two stickers.

Dick,

Here is a picture of a fellow members valve cover from the Windsor Nationals. I've digitally removed the pad stamp, but as you can see, the sticker is on the right front. This car is an original 6000 mile Bowtie winner.

What can we make of this?

Like Patrick, we have seen the double decals on a few cars. It would be the exception rather than the norm to expect to see the decal on all engines. On the judging field (at least in the 68-72 classes) all we ask for is a decal.
