    C2 hardtop storage

I'd like to store my '65 for the winter with the soft top in the "up" position, but I'm left with the hardtop lying around in my already cramped (too many project cars) storage space.

Can anyone advise about a nifty way to store my hardtop? I don't want it lying on the floor in the shop. Any advice is, as always, appreciated.

Some people use the rope hoist systems, like sold by Eckler's, and just leave them in the air over the car.

Others use the dolly setup to stand them on end. The dont' take up too much space that way.

      Mark,

I recently was looking for the same solution...I ended up using some threaded rods(4 of them), put through holes I drilled in the garage ceiling 2x8 rafters. I drilled holes slightly larger than the rods into two 2x4's, slipped one 2x4 onto one set of rods, and another onto the other set, held them on the rods with some washers and nuts, so they can be moved up or down to adjust their height. Kind of hard to explain, but it works well and the hardtop is basically very close to the ceiling, resting on the 2x4's, one under the front, where it attaches to the windshield and the other towards the back, where the hardtop rests on the rear deck lid. If you're interested, give me your email, and I'll send you a sketch of it....

Is your hardtop resting upside down or right side up putting weight on the gasket where it touches the 2x4s? This question comes up everytime this topic arises. I too want to use some type of a hoist system but mainly so I can install and remove the top by myself. I don't have the space to store the top on a stand so for long term I am considering what you did up close to the ceiling but maybe inverted so the gaskets aren't compressed in spots. No one has ever given opinions on resting the top on it's roof. ?????

          Chuck,

You can position the front so the pins rest on the 2x4. As far as the rear, it just rests on the gasket. In my climate I never plan on using the hardtop, so compressing the gasket a bit in spots is worth having it out of the way. I guess if you used a piece of plywood under the rear you could compress the gasket the same as it is when installed on the car.

Mine sat upside-down, wrapped in a blanket in the basement from the day it came back from Glassworks to the day I sold the car six years later
