They sell remanufactured 327 long blocks with 7 year/100K mile warranty for $1000. They boast a 1.7% failure rate. My Six Sigma training tells me that's terrible, but they seem to think it's good.

1000 bucks rarely gets one a rebuilt SBC , by a professional machine shop using top quality replacement parts. if cast # and cast date and pad data unimportant to you, why not get a crate engine from GM. all new parts, good guarantee from a company that should(?) be around for awhile. last time i got one they were about 1300 bucks. mike

Here's my budget long block for my truck project. I shopped for parts and cutu it tight. Also assembled it myself. I don't know how it could be done much cheaper and the shop still turn any profit. I'd be curious as to what parts they are using.
