    C2/C3 idler arm question.

I have what I think is an original idler arm for my 68. Has a part number 3779185 and a GM insignia on it. It has a green plastic washer located on the stud that attaches to the drag link. Does anything else belong between the drag link and the stud that attaches to the drag link? The replacement one on my car has a foam rubber washer between the stud and the drag link. Just wondering. Re: C2/C3 idler arm question.

    Terry----

All 1963-81 Corvette idler arms have the forging number "3779185" on the forged section of the unit. However, not all units with the "3779185" forging number are Corvette units. The same component of the arm was also used for some 1963 Chevrolet pick-up trucks. These arms have a bracket section which has two offsets; the Corvette piece has one offset. Obviously, if this arm is on your car, it must be the Corvette piece and it is an original or original replacement. This part, GM PART #3779185 was available in SERVICE until the mid-1980s.

As far as the washer goes, it is used between the idler arm and the relay rod. It was GM #3793578, but it's long-since GM-discontinued. The foam rubber SEAL was also used in addition to the washer. It was GM #3744796, but it's also long-since GM-discontinued. Dr. Rebuild carries the seals in reproduction.

      Correction.

The idler assembly PART number was GM #3779184 and NOT 3779185.

The part is not on my car yet....It will get there soon though. I was wondering the order of the rubber seal and green plastic washer. Was the plastic washer up against the idler arm and then the foam washer next against the drag link? Thanks for the info. And yes, it is the staight shaft with the one bend in it not the two bends as in trucks. I have seen the truck versions advertised as corvette. Immagine the look when people try to bolt those to the frame section of the car.....hmmmmm. Thanks for responding, Terry

            Terry----

My vague recollection tells me that the washer goes towards the idler arm with the seal under it. I'm not 100% sure about this, though.

                Geoffrey------

I've been staring too much at the cover page of the latest Dr. Rebuild catalog/reference manual. It's created "Corvette Dementia" in me. Patrick tried to treat me for it when he was out here, but he ended up just giving up. He said it looks like it's terminal.

Even Joe was beyond a prescription.

                  Or is that perscription?

I think he uses the cover of the Doc Rebuild catalog to cover his "brown wrapper" magazines when they come in the mail. That way all his friends think he's studying Corvette.
