I have been reading some of the archives and my 65 oil pan has got the oil drain on the right front side of the hump. It appears that I need one with a rear center drain to be correct. I have a 327 350 with PS. All replacement pans now have the side drain. What original cars came with the rear drains? Which Years. Thanks, Mike Member# 36987

Re: 65 327 Oil Pan
Mike-----
For the most part, only Corvette pans had the rear drain. Whether or not you might be able to find another small block pan with a rear drain, unless it's a Corvette pan, it won't be correct for your application. The 63-74 Corvette oil pan configuration (beyond just the drain location) was unique to Corvettes and significantly different from the pan used on ANY other Chevrolet small block. All 1963-74 Corvette small block oil pans are GM-discontinued and there is no reproduction available at the present time.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 65 327 Oil Pan
Thanks Joe! I think I might be in real trouble as I have never had the engine in my car since buying it four years ago. Mike- Top

I'm NOT saying that the pan you have won't fit in the car. Many small block oil pans, except some Chevy II and Chevelle pans, will fit just fine in any 1963-82 Corvette. The 1975-79 Corvette oil pans were the same as Camaro and full size Chevrolet. These pans will fit perfectly in a 1963-74 Corvette chassis. It's just that they're not "correct" from an originality and judging perspective. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
