    Teakwood Steering Wheel

    Gentleman,
I am in the process of purchasing a beautifully preserved original 65-66 teak steering wheel.
Can someone give me some clues on how to distinguish it from a repro. Is it marked with a date or number? The seller is asking good money so I want to be sure before purchasing that it is not a reproduction but the real thing.
    Thanks for your help members.

    Rick,

-------There are no numbers or markings on a genuine Teak wheel to distinguish it from the repros, either good or bad. The bad news is that spotting original teaks, IMO, just takes experience. I could tell you several things that differentiate the originals, but I think it would be difficult on the computer for someone as illiterate as me. I think maybe Ill E-mail you my ph.# and if you feel like picking my brain (what little is left) you can call me any evening. I have had a pretty deep fascination with teaks since 1965 and have owned probably around a hundred over the years. Havent been stung with a fake yet. And by the way, thats not to say that some of the newer wheels are bad. Some are excellent, and I would buy some of the better repops in a second if I needed one............Bill S

I've seen a few of the ones done by Teak Master. They look really good to me.He was at the Windsor National selling them. Maybe someone else who seen them there can comment on what they think. Mike

-------Dick and Mike have very kindly mentioned both the fellas that I think most highly of. They both have a superior product. I am a bit more familiar with Erics wheels but also saw the others at Windsor and they were very nice..........Bill S
