    63-4 JG

I've just received my "new" 63-4 Judging Guide; besides dropping "condition" section and removing a duplicated phrase under parking lights, it seems to be a reprint. This includes page 65, where a section on Tonawanda 3858180 blocks and their usage in 1964 is retained.
It has always been my recollection that this happened in Oct/Nov of 1964, ao would this not affect 1965 models and NOT 1964's?

you are correct. I would suggest you discuss this with the Judging chairman. It would be a continuation of a conversation I had with him about the '65-66 latest manuals when I saw him at the Cinn. Regional.

I am strongly resisting an urge to post.

Loren- could you check the ignition coil utilization table and see if it was changed?

Over two years ago I submitted a letter with backup documentation in the form of a copy of a TSB that specified changes in coil/ballast utilization. These changes are also evident in the engineering change record of the applicable AIM sheets.

All early production utilized the 091 coil and 0.3 ohm ballast for all engines, but a running change substituted the 087 coil and 1.8 ohm ballast for base and L-75. The L-76/L-84 continued with the 091 coil/0.3 ballast, and this utilization scheme continued through the end of '64 production.

The reason for the change was the high incidence of burned points, especially in cold weather with the 091/0.3 ohm ballast. The "service fix" was to install a 1.8 ohm ballast in SHP/FI engine equipped cars during the winter months.

I wonder how many owners did that as a part of their winter preparation?

Bill, I just found a copy of my 1993 letter to the Team Leader saying the same thing then - I wonder how many Tonawanda-engined '64's have top flighted?
