I've been looking for a replacement passenger side door for my 66 convertible. I have found one that has a metal reinforcement plate screwed to the inside over the vent window mounting area. I have found a picture that shows nuts anchored in the door for this plate to attach to. Looking at my original door, the depressions are there, but nothing was ever mounted here. I also cannot find these plates in the 1966 assembly manaul. What year doors used these reinforcement plates? I have pictures of both style doors if anyone is interested in seeing them.

Re: 1966 convertible door configuration
I can't explain to you the exact circumstances in which they should have been used, but over many years I have seen various installations. Some 63 to 67's, had two plates, and on both doors. Some had only one of the two plates, and some examples actually had both plates on one side, and none had ever been installed ( no clips in the depression, nor the presence of any holes ) on the opposite side. Stranger things have been seen

Re: 1966 convertible door configuration
-------Its my experience that the door with the plate is a 1965 unless it has the raised pads underneath the exterior door handle. Then it would be a 1964. No 66/67 Vettes that I know of came with the plate over the vent-window crank. Hope we are talking about the same thing..........Bill S- Top
