My gage is always running between 50-60 PSI and I know this has been discussed a lot in the past as it seems to be a common problem but can someone tell me the reason (most likely) why the actuals are so high?

Probably because somene has installed a high pressure pump. Odds are they put in a high volume, high pressure pump which isn't needed under normal operation. -

I installed a new standard pump with my rebuild.(70 350HP) The gauge needle is pegged at warm up and highway speeds. Around 35 at warm idle. Figure its the gauge.Comment

You call that high? Mine
idles at that pressure range, and even when hot, it runs pegged at 90psi+. Before you say "high pressure TRW pump", you should know it has been like that for 50 years. Since the rings are lubed with splash oil coming out of the crankshaft, no. In fact, low pressure due to worn bearings would probably expose your rings to MORE oil.Comment

Check your oil pressure with a good quality mechanical oil pressure guage.
I have seen new as well as old oil pressure guages that read wrong, low as well as high.
