      Re: 67 vent window cranks

Peter - For the front door ventilator regulator handle they had "red" for the '67 Corvette and "dark red" for the '67 Chevrolet passenger car line including CAPRICE, IMPALA (STA. WAG), IMPALA (SPT. MDLS). The Corvette handle's part number is 7690277 and the PASS handle's part number is 7690279 so there was a definite difference in the shade of the knob's color.

From the 1967 Chevrolet Dealer's Book, the Caprice and Impala color chart red is definitely a darker red in color vs the Corvette Sting Ray color chart red which is a lighter (medium as mentioned is appropriate) and more brilliant red in color.

I don't know that any other 1967 GM product line vehicles such as Buick, Ponitac, etc used the same handle as the Corvette.

        Pete,

Do you know of anybody correctly reproducing these, or does anybody have any NOS, that I can purchase??

Peter - I do not know if anyone is correctly reproducing '67 vent window or side window handles. Hopefully someone else might know a source.

I expect finding the red '67 Corvette ones NOS or used will be a challenge. So as an option, it might be worthwhile trying the '67 big car crowd for the dark red ones in hopes that thru the year the color has faded and you might be able to re-dye the knob to be the desired color.

Others have mentioned using dye on the knobs so check the Archives, but I don't recall if you can use the dye to change the color of the knob or just freshen up the color. If you can really effectively change the knob's color, then the search for acceptable candidates to recolor should be easier. Good luck. Pete
