62 master cylinder banjo leaking

How do I keep the brass washer from leaking on my 62 master cylinder? The small one closest to the cylinder has seepage when pushing on the pedal. The brass banjo fitting is nice and clean, new brass washers and a clean master cylinder surface.

What torque should the bolt be? I ended up tightening as much as I dared and it still leaked.

replace the brass/copper? washer after surfacing the master cylinder's inlet face.. should cure the problem. mike

Actually it is leaking between the large nut and the banjo fitting. So I guess I can remove the large nut and face sand it on a flat granite table with 220 grit wet or dry sandpaper? Or finer? I tune up my wood chisels through a succesion of finer grits but how fine should I go?

think i'd put a second brass/copper washer on the bolt before slipping it thru the banjo fitting then one between fitting and master cyl main body. i usually end up surfacing a piece with 400 wet paper.mike

I think that is the way it is? I have a brass washer under the bolt head and then between the banjo and the master cylinder nut. I will pick up 2 mare washers, surface the nut and put it back together.

I just checked Paragon catalog and they show two different sized copper washers should be used. The ones I took out were identical. Does anyone have the dimensions of the washers? Per the AIM they are PN 799390 and 799303.

Yup, two distinctly different size soft copper washers - still have some in my '57 "leftovers" collection:

P/N 799303 - 1/2" I.D. x 13/16" O.D. x 1/32" thick (goes between the brass block and the face of the master cylinder).

P/N 799390 - 19/32" I.D. x 13/16" O.D. x 1/32" thick (goes between the bolt head and the brass block).
