    Goodyear Speedway Blue Streaks?

    Hi.

I know this subject was posted recently. I was looking through the photo archives on the corvette magazine website. Here is a picture for everyone to look at. If it doesnt work you can see it if you go to photo gallery and choose 1967 pics. I just wanted to know where this person might have bought these. They appear to look very similar to the red lines except for the blue line. Thanks again for any and all help.

    There is the picture...

    Re: Goodyear Speedway Blue Streaks?

Chuck - I took a look at the picture. It was too grainy for me to read what the white letters actually say, but, based on counting letters it probably says "Goodyear" on one side and "Goodyear Blue Streak" 180 degrees opposite. Kelsey Tire is the exclusive distributor of Goodyear (street) vintage tires. My several year old catalog does not show a blue line tire, and I didn't see one on a cursory check of their web site (www.kelseytire.com), but I recommend you start your search with them. These tires do not appear to be an old set of Blue Streak Sports Car Special racing tires. They're probably a reproduction of an old street tire.

I'm reluctant to say anything, and don't misunderstand this lead as a recommendation.

Pro Team has "Blue Streaks" listed for sale on their Parts page. Be prepared for a rather hefty asking price.

I like it! Sure would like to get a set of those for the knockoffs! (Purists, don't worry, the steel wheels that came on the car have repro goldlines, which the car came with - I just don't want to put on another set of goldlines on the knockoffs - feel like trying something different!) I can't quite make out the size on the sidewall, but they look like the same mold as the redlines. Help us out folks if you know how to get them! Wonder if the ProTeam tires are old originals, which might not be so safe...

          Duke,

Thanks for the help. On one side of the tire it said "Goodyear" and on the other side it said "Speedway Blue Streak"

Everett-These are the street tire we posted about last week.As far as i know they have'nt been produced in a long time, read mid to late 60's.As i said in the post these tires in the 775x 15 size show up at Corvette swap meets quite regularly at very high prices for worn, dry, old tires.Anybody who would buy and then drive on most of the ones i've seen would be a fool and a rich one at that. These are trailer queen tires at best.NOS ones even if you find them will be tremendously expensive. Thanks Lou, there were so many posts about these tires that I got lost in the shuffle. I have contacted Goodyear about the current vintage blue streaks to determine if they have white letters, blue stripe, both, or none, because it seemed that nobody knew for sure - maybe I missed that on the earlier posts also. I have not heard back yet.

Everett-I know what you mean about gettin lost.I think the photo is of a L-88 roadster.Deep pockets territory car and tire wise.Maybe Coker will consider blue radials they would look good on my white 66 roadster. It's another beautiful day here in Detroit so it's time for another topdown ride.Later, Lou

Re: Blue lines on '67 L88 roadster

Lou --- I think you're right on the car in that photo. BTW, with my screen resolution and a magnifying glass, I can make out "4 PLY" and "V-1".

If it is the L88, ex Tony DiLorenzo / Doug Rowe / Wayne Walker (Zip products) car, I have photos of the VIN (# 9097) and trim tags, as well as the Protecto Plate. This car spent many years in Canada, raced by Doug Rowe. A friend, John Simonsen, bought it from Doug for around $ 20K (if memory serves), and we trailered it from Calgary to Walker at Bloomington '83. I remember Doug's mechanic showed me the documentation, which didn't impress me at the time because of the radical race configuration of the car. Filed "under kick myself in the rear" dept.

                    Contact Kelsey Tire and Goodyear

With so many guys hot for these tires, someone should start working with Kelsey (not Coker) and Goodyear to get these tires reproduced. I'm sure the Shelby, Camaro and other pony car guys would be interested, too. I'm still holding out to find one more 1963/4 vintage 7.00-15 Blue Streak Sports Car Special.

FWIW: If that is the X Wayne Walker car I recall seeing it at Copper Mountain National in 1984 with blue lines. Can not remember anything more about the tires - just noted they matched the stinger color. Nice effect.

                        Chuck,

I was just stumbling around the web and wandered into the Sasco Sports site (link below) that seems to be selling reproduction Goodyear Bluestreaks for vintage racing. Unfortunately, their site doesn't have a picture of the tires, just a chart with sizing and pricing information. Also it doesn't indicate whether they are street legal or not. I hope this helps.

Joe, I do not think that the Blue Streaks at Sasco are the same as in the picture posted here on the 67. The racing Blue Streaks I have seen have a very different sidewall look to them. That is the look that I am looking for in a tire. The ones shown in the photo are very similar to the current reproduction redlines (maybe the same mold). I have been dong some more research and it seems that the closest thing to the old Blue Streak sports/racing tires are the vintage Dunlop tires, though I can't seem to find the correct size for my 65. I am fairly new to this old tire business but I am sure that other marques have been through this debate. I mean I don't see too many vintage Ferrari's or Porsche's riding around on new radials. If someone that vintage races or has other marques could help?...
