Anyone have info on a reproduction Delco tar top battery for a 64 from Antique Auto Battery in Hudson, Ohio? Neighbor needs a battery for his car but I'm not sure who to recommend. Thanks.....

You can call them, but I think all they have is polytar.

Thanks Bill. I'm not familiar with all the new reproduction items from the last 10 or 15 years so I don't know the best source for this battery. The owner wants it to look as correct as possible. Who would you suggest? The car is driven/shown locally a few times a week so it would have to be a reasonly dependable unit.

Either Dave Lane or Tom at Restoration battery can set you up with a unit that should look good and function well.

Michael, unfortunately, I do not know of an alternate supplier to recommend, so I hate to be negative; however, I have had several dealing with this Company over the past two years, and my experience is that there is an attitude problem from the assistant who answers the telephone on up. They did replace one of their tar top batteries for me at no charge - this was several years ago. Just this month, one of their maintenance free gel-type batteries, less than six month old, cost me half price to get it replaced. That is another story. The point is that a resolution to a problem, should one occur, will be neither quick or without numerous telephone calls.

The good and bad, from my experience...

I had an Antique Auto Battery in my '55 for over 10 years, all but the last few without a battery charger. They are pretty abrupt over the phone, I expect this to get worse since their only serious competitor, New Castle, ceased operations about 5 months ago. Their dealer discount is just about non-existent. Meanwhile, New Castle is for sale- Wanna buy a battery company?

I believe you'll still find existing stock of New Castle tar top battery's for sale, here/there, by their prior/existing dealers!
