Anybody going to Mike Yagers Corvette Funfest next week. I am planning to bring the unrestored 57 Nassau/Daytona factory team car if anyone is interested in seeing it.
I am not sure where it will be set up yet..but stop by and say hello. If anyone has any pictures of the car from Nassau, Bahamas Dec.1956, Daytona Speedweek on the beach Feb.57, New Smyrna Feb.57 or Sebring March 57.. I would appreciate copies.
The car was driven and tested by Dick Thompson at the Sebring track in November '56 prior to being shipped to Nassau. It was later worked on by Smokey Yunick in Daytona prior to the speed trials on the beach at Daytona and then also at SEDCO in Atlanta under supervision of Vince Piggins prior to Sebring.
Below is a picture of the car that was sent to Chevrolet dealers back in 57 to rev up sales. It was included in a Jam Handy produced press kit and slide film that showed Paul Goldsmith driving the car as #9
The car was retired and sold by Chevrolet Engineering in May 1958 through Dick Doane Chevrolet. It retains the original CEC Chevrolet Engineering race engine, prototype fuel injection, factory roll bar, RPO 581 traction bar suspension, fast steering adaptor, prototype airbox airmeter adaptor, original interior with modified drivers seat, shortened steering column etc..
One owner for 46 years..it remains on the original title. It was painted gold over the white w/blue stripes...sometime about '61.
The original paint is perfectly preserved underneath and the blue stripes are clearly visible under the rear valance as well as the blue inserts.
I am looking for advice on how to remove the gold paint to reveal the original white w/blue stripes.
Joe
