    C1 56-62 Windshield

Something that I did not think about might be giving me a problem. I am trying to install a new correctly dated windshield glass in my 59 and have a weather seal that is about 8 inches too short. This is after I have stretched it 2 inches over the last 3 days.

Are the 53-55 windshields smaller and the weather seals shorter in their length to fit around the circumference of the glass? I know that they have a different part number when you order one.

My measurement around the outside of my old windshield came to 144 inches and this is what I have been trying to get the new weather seal to set onto as a parts assembly check.

If someone has had good luck with a supplier for the windshield weather seal fit please let me know who was your source?

I may have received a weather seal that is either defective or for the wrong year form Zip Products. Problem is that I bought this over a year ago and should have checked it then. (My fault for trusting and not checking)

Any help would be appreciated as I plan on ordering a weather Monday.

    Tony,

I don't know the differences in windshield seals for all the C1's, but I do know I had to stretch more than two inches on my '58 installation. Heat the seal in the sun for a while before attempting to install it. I posted the process I used on this board a few months ago. Check the achieves under my name.

      Tony...

Windshield weather-strip assembly requires a lot of patience. If the seal as been coiled up somewhere, heat it in the sun or even the kitchen oven has been used for such purposes. Have a helper hold sections in place as you move around the windshield. Believe it, it will go on. ps...corvette Rubber is another source.

There is a fellow from this site who posted about how to replace a C1s windsheild ,His information is on a site he built. It was very helpfull to me. I installed my windsheild probably in may or june so search the archives for his information.

I found the center of the windsheild from left to right.then found the center of the rubber gasket by measuring out from the courners. It was a tight stretch. My car is a 1962 and my gasket set was purchased from paragon reproductions.

        Good Luck with it
