    FIRESTONE TIRES

I was just looking in the archives section came across "FIRESTONE 500" post, they say in 1963 they came with Firestone 500 6.70x15 in the judging manual they say 1963 came with Firestone Deluxe Champion and Option P91 Blackwall Firestone 500, what I like to know were there any 1963 with Firestone "500" 6.70x15 whitewalls come out of the factory in 1963 Thanks

    Re: FIRESTONE TIRES

I ordered P92 and requested Firestones, but got General JetAires. Now that I understand the production process I doubt if my request ever made it to the shop floor as there was no way to communciate it. I should have ordered P91 to get the nylon cord blackwalls.

The whitewalls looked terrible and the rayon cord JetAires chunked before they had 10K miles.

      Danny,

I can't say with absolute certainty but of all the original Firestone tires/spares I've seen from 63's and 64's, I've never seen one that was a "500". Every one has been a Deluxe Champion.

A Firestone dealer owner once told me that the "500" was a step up from the Deluxe Champion so it's not like that any were installed on new cars.

My 1964 Vette still has the original spare tire in the tub, and it's a Firestone "500" blackwall. I use this tire as the spare since I have four NOS 670x15 BSW Firestone Deluxe Champions on the car.

Your car must have be built with P-91. Can you check the tire and see if it says rayon or nylon. I had a hunch that the F/S 500 was nylon cord and was the P-91 tire.

Is the spare wheel painted body color?

Didn't in 64 that the wheels were all paint black regardless of tire option and was 63 the last year the wheels were painted body color only on blackwall tires. Danny

According the the JG all '64 steel wheels are painted black regardless or tire option, but if this '64 spare is an original P-91 nylon tire, I was interested in verification.

Duke, just got back into town tonight, my spare rim (is a original 64 ko wheel). I'll check the spare tire tomorrow night and past the info. I'll also check the three other Firestone "500" I have.

I just looked at my original tires which are Firestone 500 Nylon blackwalls. On the lower side of the tire they are labeled Gum Dipped. I tried to take some pictures but there is not enoght light in my hangar loft and the flash would not work. If anyone is interested I will shoot some in the daylight.

David, my tires say the same things as yours, a few years ago I could have purchased a NOS set(four) on "500"s. I wish I purchased them!!!!

They are labeled 6:70 15. If you wish I can measure the circumfrance. I did not get home in time today to take pictures out side so the lettering can show up.

Hi David, the whitewall Firestone 500 670x15 and 670x15 Firestone deluxe Champion there almost 1/2" smaller diffrent in dimensions on the two tires I was just wondering what the Firestone blackwall were or if there diffrent then whitewall 500 dimension, I put on one of the Firestone 500 whitewall on my 63 they look very small they don,t look so great on the car. thank David

Danny, are you talking about the cross section of the tire. I do not have them on the car but they are monunt on my original wheels. Do you want me to measure the maximum width. Compared to today's tires they look like skinny.

Hi David, the dimension from top of tire to bottom, not the tread width, just to confrim the Firestone 500 whitewalls and the Firestone 500 Blackwall top and bottom measurement I have the measurement of the whitewall just need blackwall measurement. Thanks again David
