    05 Z06 20k over sticker price!!

Saturday me and my kids went to the local Chevy dealer in Huntersville, NC to look at the new Corvettes. They had a few very nice convertibles @ $63k or so. I asked about the new Z06 and I was told I could place an order for one with a 20k deposit. I was told that they will be selling them for 20k over sticker price since they will be so hard to get. Sticker price fully loaded is $68k. I told him that I have never paid sticker price for a car and I surely will not start now. We then went to another Chevy dealership in Mooresville, NC and they told me they would order a new Z06 with a $500 non refundable deposit and then they would only charge me sticker price + my $500 deposit. So they are only charging $500 over sticker. Sorry but I still refuse to pay sticker price.

From my past experience with cars, the 1st to get will pay out the nose and then once the demand goes down the price will go down. I bought a brand new 2002 Viper right of the delivery truck for 10k under sticker price. Before then they use to be 5 to 10k over sticker price.

Just my thought of the day.

    Good day!!

Dealers can be such slime! Actions such as you desribed are second only to gasoline price gouging. Sure, nobody NEEDS a Z06 (I think), but let's get real here. I would remember the dealer who marked up any car or truck $20K the next time I was in the new car market-I'd remember to not buy it from him! It's the usual MMTBs that are the first on their block to buy these cars. We have a dealer here that routinely adds a second window sticker for such useless embellishments as "fabric care", "paint sealant" and other garbage that costs the dealer about $75.00 to jack up the window sticker by as much as $2,000.
I hope dealers that do this have to eat these cars for breakfast!

Your State Attorney General should be advised of this practice.

Believe me, there are dealers that are honest and have integrity. Our NCRS sponsor (Chev Dealer) does not sell anything over MSRP. Regretably though, he does have a significant waiting list. Every dealer should already know how many they will receive. Many will get none.

I don't know how these guys can look you in the eye a year later when the car is more value priced and they are now trying to sell you an Impala...

I also wonder if the actual Dealer/Principle is aware of the selling tactics of of one or more of his salespeople. My experience is they don't. Many will fire that person.

      Turn around and walk out!

When I bought my used 03 ZO6 the C6 models were just coming out (standard, not ZO6) I asked this dealer how much over sticker he was getting, because at that time every other dealer was asking 5K or so over. He said he would not charge over sticker because most of his vette business was repeat and "Where's that 5K going to come from next year?" Good point.

On a related note, the word is that no C6 ZO6 will ship before December due to problems with the aluminum frame. So be sure to get interest on a deposit.

This info comes off ZO6Vette.com, and I can't confirm or dispute it.

          Lee,

Our sponsor DOES have a lot of integrity, that's for sure.
Bob went to bat for me on my minivan when the local dealer here wouldn't, so you can be sure they'll be getting my new car orders.

See you at the meeting in October.

He's also a Ferrari-Maserati dealer, and sells those new for sticker too; yup, there's quite a waiting list. A one-year-old used Ferrari brings about $75K more than a new one.

You likely know better than I, but I thought that Ferrari dealers "had to" sell at sticker per their dealer contract.

That's true, but not all "stick to the contract" all the time. In any event, with their allocation of new cars as small as it is and the waiting list as long as it is, the used-car trade and the service department are what pays the bills; they LOVE used cars!
