    67 427/435 stall.

Back in June I posted regarding my 67 stalling while at cruising speed. Duke suggested setting up a volt meter in the car and watching it to see if there is a voltage drop when the engine cuts out. Well, the engine cut out a few times yesterday and the voltage does drop a bit when that happens. Does this mean I can rule out the fuel pump?? The engine cuts out intermitantly......and fires right up after I downshift without my doing anything. I drove for about an hour and it cut out three times. It seems to cut out after acceleration and only after I've lifted my foot off the accelerator a bit to resume cruising speed. Thanks for the help.

I believe I suggested attaching the positive test lead to the plus side of the coil?

How did you attach it and what were the actual voltage readings both when operating and when it cut out?

My suspicion is that there is an intermittent open in the pickup coil signal leads. As you get on and off the throttle the breaker plate is rapidly moved back and forth between the limits of travel, which stresses the leads where they connect to the coil winding.

I've been through this will the HEI on my Cosworth Vega.

You should check pickup coil resistance while exercising the vacuum advance or otherwise move the base plate through it's range of travel and look for any fluctuation in the meter reading. If the pickup coil opens momentarily the ignition quits working, which would effect the voltage reading at the ign. coil + terminal, which is why I suggested you run this test?

I also suggest that you separate all connectors, carefully inspect and make sure they are clean and snug.

My 1972 Corvette (L48) would shut down at highway speed and in traffic, acted like turning the key to the off position. It would restart and run again until the next transient. Turned out to be the trigger module in the Mallory Unilite distributor. Replacement parts were only available at the local speed shop. Changed the distributor to a Corvette unit with points and have not experienced the problem again.

        Duke/Louis
Thanks for the responses........Duke, connections were made as you instructed.....volts dropped but not to zero. Louis, the condition you describe is the same as mine.....I thing the distributor may be the culprit. How can I test it.........thanks.

I described testing the pickup coil in my previous post. Also see your CSM for details and the specified resistance range.
