This transmission, while being 100% functional for your 1969, would not be entirely correct. First, it is a transmission manufactured for the 1968 model year. As such, it was assembled on October 10, 1967. So, the date coding would not be correct for your car. However, I don't think that this date coding is actually judged in flight judging. Obviously, the VIN derivative on the transmission would not match your car, either.

While the casting numbers for the main case and the extension housing would be the same for both 1968 and 1969, the 1969 side cover was different. This could be easily changed, though, if you could locate a 1969 side cover and shifter shafts(which are also different for 1969).

The tag on the transmission confirms that it is a 1968 close ratio Muncie 4 speed. This particular transmission was used for some 1968 Corvettes with close ratio 4 speed and higher numerical ratio rear end ratios. It was also used for some 1968 full size passenger cars and may also have been used for some Chevelles, Camaros, and Chevy IIs. I believe that this one originally resided in a passenger car, but that makes no difference; the Corvette and passenger car transmissions of the same part number were exactly the same.

      Frank,

Without checking out if his date code is correct, the price seems stiff to me unless it has been professionally rebuilt and is perfect for your car. I'd check with "4Speeds by Darryl" and other sources to find out what the "going rate" is for a Muncie transmission.

Yes, this transmission does seem a bit expensive (at the "buy-it-now" price, anyway, unless it's fully rebuilt, as you say). However, I don't know that he'll be able to get the "going price" for Muncies from Daryl Sheppard. What he'll likely get from Daryl is DARYL'S "going price" for a Muncie. That may not be the same as the GENERAL "going price".

I don't know why you want the M-21 over the M-20. The M-20 would be a better transmission for getting your Corvette started from a stop sign, espically if you are taking off going up-hill. I have a M-21 with 3:70 and the first stop sign leaving my home is an up-hill take off, engine cold, cold morning, have to slip the clutch. If my brother would give me one of his 4-speeds I would put a M-20 in it.

It was also originally a 5/50 warranty replacement transmission, evidenced by the "CT" (Chevrolet Transmission) prefix on the Muncie build code stamp.
