What type of material is the original headliner made from and what does it look like? The headliner in a coupe I just purchased was sagging so I took it out thinking I might be able to re-glue it. As it turned out I think the headliner is a repo headliner but I'm not sure what the originals looked like or what they were constructed from. The one I have has a foam backed vinyl glued to a molded plastic insert. Over the years the foam deteriorated turning to dust which resulted in my saggy headliner. I pulled everything apart, cleaning the foam from the vinyl and the glue from the molded plastic. My plan was to glue a new piece of 1/8" foam to the plastic then glue the old vinyl to the foam. Well the first part worked fine but when I put some glue on the vinyl it began to shrivel up and bubble. As I see it now I have two options; either buy a new headliner or try and find a piece of higher quality vinyl that matches what I took off. My problem is I don't know what an original headliner looked like. The piece of vinyl that I ruined was very smooth and not textured like the seats or door panels. Was the original smooth or textured? Does anyone sell just the vinyl? Thanks for any help.

Re: c2 coupe headliner
John,
My original headliner backing was more of a cardboard like material. The repro I installed was plastic as you say, making it more difficult to put the clips through that attach the trim over it. I've been told that re-gluing the original headliner back together just won't hold, the foam backing on the vinyl being the problem.- Top
