On the 1966 M20,M21,and M22 transmissions, how does the stamped date codes work? I have a tranny that has: "P01005" Is this right? I'm not sure if it's original or restamped. All of the others I've seen has "P" then a four digit "month" and "day" code. Thanks

Re: Muncie 4-sp Date Codes (1966)
I've seen something similar recently, on eBay. Seems to have one digit too many. Could be P0105 or P1005. Is the last digit the same font (sometimes, but rarely, there's a smaller letter or numeral following, which I think is an inspector stamping, but the date couldn't be P0100).
Other ways to check what date this could really be is to look at the cast circle with month (line) number of dots (underneath) for the week of casting -- found in area above the fill plug. Also, if there's a VIN derivative stamped somewhere on the maincase (Corvette or other) we could probably narrow this down to a final assy. month and production plant, through the number.- Top

Re: Muncie 4-sp Date Codes (1966)
Since NCRS doesn't judge transmission details, there's not that much info in the books regarding Muncie's build date stamping convention (did it change over time, Etc). My '65 BB is wacked P 03 [3] 20 which I interpret to mean Muncie, 03 month, 3rd shift, 20th day. The [3] is a SMALL three digit, about half the size of the other stamped characters, totally enclosed within an outline box....- Top
