    Bleed Down Test

CAN YOU POINT ME TO WHERE I CAN GET SPECIFIC DETAILS TO CONDUCT THE BLEED DOWN TEST MENTIONED IN EARLIER POST.

MY '62 IS A BAD OIL BURNER AND THINK IT'S THE HEADS BECAUSE UNDER HEAVY ACCEL, NO SMOKE. BUT IT WILL SHOW SOME SMOKE ON "RE-START".......BURNS A QT EVERY 200 MILES APPROX BUT THE PLUGS HANG IN AND DON'T FOUL (SURPRISINGLY...???) WAS COMPLETELY REBUILT IN '82...EVERY MOVING PART NEW. SO NOW IT COULD BE THE RINGS DIDN'T SEAT; THE VALVE SEATS ARE DAMAGED AND/OR LEAKING A BIT TO BOOT. TKS, JOHN

    John,

Please do not type in all capitals. It is harder to read and is considered shouting in print.

In answer to your question, many auto parts stores carry bleed down testers. A fitting that screws into the spark plug hole with host attached, a pressure gage and a fitting for an air hose to apply pressure. It should have instructions to use it.

If the plugs don't foul it suggests to me you may have a problem with exhaust valve guide seals.

A compression test will give you an indication of ring and valve condition.

How many miles has it been driven since the 82 rebuild?
