    C3 1969 427 block

    Hello all,

I'm going to Carlisle for the first time in search of the correct 427 block for my October 68 400hp car. Firstly, am I going to be correct with a 270 or 439 2 bolt block cast 6 months prior to the build date of my car? I am also concerned about these blocks being correct Corvette blocks. I recently saw a 439 block that had PASSENGER/TRUCK stamped into it. Is this still correct? What if the pad is decked and it is the correct 439 or 270 casting number, is there any way to ensure this block would be from a Corvette?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jonathan

Per NCRS judging standards, you can use a block up to 6 mos prior to the build date of your car, but for a hydraulic cam engine most dates are typically closer, like 2 to 8 weeks before the build date of the car. ALL big blocks of this vintage were cast and machined at the same factory, so there is no such thing as a correct Corvette casting - they're all the same! They almost all say TRUCK PASS in the casting. In fact, an original block from a 345 or 390 HP Impala would get you more NCRS points than a decked Corvette block as long as the dates are good for your car (talking about the pad stamping ie: T0813LP and the VIN derivative ie: 19s726839).

      Good luck,
      Mark
