    Midyear BB Roller Rocker Clearance

Although I've been unable to locate it in the archives, I seem to remember a discussion on this board about which roller rockers would fit under stock valve covers on a midyear big block. I believe someone advised that Crower stainless roller rockers would fit if the drippers were removed. Can anyone shed any light on this?

    Thanks for your help.

    Mike-----

Having a personal interest in this particular subject, I called Crower several weeks ago. They informed me that their stainless steel rockers will fit under stock big block valve covers, although we didn't discuss the issue of "drippers". That's because if one were to use valve covers equipped with drippers, it would be a simple matter to bend them over or otherwise remove them if they posed interference problems. Actually, I don't think that they'll interfere, but I believe that your better off without the drippers if you are using roller rockers. Roller rockers do not require the same degree of lubrication as stock rockers since there is no ball seat. Why direct extra oil to the upper end of the valve train when it will only potentially create problems and not create any benefit?

Its' not da rockers that pose da problem, its' da.

big long adjustment nut that comes withe the rockers that pose the problem. You can grind the drippers 1/2 way down and they will clear the adjustment nut.

Why roller rockers? Less friction, less side to side motion, no wear on the roller as on the tip of a stock rocker arm. In simple terms, less friction, more horsepower.

Mike, I have a 68 L89 with the crower rockers. With the drippers bent flat, there is no problems at all.
