A little while back I spent almost a year trying to source a correct 67 427/435 HP Block. Everyone I found ( there were 4 ) were in or around the 10K mark, for a bare usable block. Given the cost of these block's, " not to mention the cars " I would recommend going the complete route, and spending the extra dollars, to have it sleeved correctly, and rebuilt as a standard block, by a reputable engine shop.

However this is only my opinion !

10K seems high. I thought the current going rate for 351 blocks was about 5K.

          Scott,

-------Quality is the key. 351 blocks w/4bolt mains and good, usable bores (no frags) are so rare anymore that it appears to be absolutely a sellers market. The dealers out there would love to get thier hands on all the good 351 blocks they could at $5,000, as they have buyers waiting. With the prices we are seeing (weather we like it or not) for the cars, big money for the correct blocks is (unfortunatly) happening all around us. JMHO.........Bill S

Ebay item 45675082867 is my only data point. This is an .080 over 4 bolt which sold for $5,533.00. I guess since it was bored so much that it's value would be decreased some what. Do nice ones really sell for 10K? My friend bought his replacement block about 15 years ago so we don't have a good idea of current value.

              Scott,

-------Im not saying every usable 351 block will bring $10,000, but an .080 over block has much less value than a block usable at .030, or less. You are actually making my point as this .080 over block brought this much. Since I didnt look at the auction do you know if the .080 over is usable as is? I know you could build an .080 over engine and use it, but would you if you found another block with standard bore or a bit more for a higher price. Hey, you can have a holed boat anchor welded up and put 8 sleeves in it anymore but how hard would you, personally, run it???? I dont like it either, but I think things are going this direction........Bill S

                Bill:

Yes I agree the .080 impacts the value. I did not notice it in the auction text until I went back and reread it prior to posting the auction number. I am just suprised as to the high end of 351 block prices.

By the way in my initial post I stated that the correctly dated block was .090 over. It is actually only .030 over. The .090 came from a 15 year old memory. The incorrectly dated block is standard but may need to be cleaned up before being rebuilt.

-------Sounds as if you can offset some costs with the incorrectly dated block. Good for you!!!!.........Bill S
