Fuel consumption on L-36??

Gentlemen/Ladies: What type of fuel mileage should one get on a 66 L-36 vert, all org, 39K org miles, engine never tampered with or out of car. I'm having some Holley carb issues right now and have only 1 Lb pressurre coming from my fuel pump (replacement on order) and this weekend filled the 20 gal tank and drove 147 miles and she was on "E". Does this sound right???

I doubt that you really burned a full 20 gallon tankful. Nevertheless, even assuming that you actually used just 15 gallons of fuel, the fuel economy seems a little low to me for your engine. It's not way out of range, though. Also, a lot depends upon what rear gear ratio the car has in it now.

You might want to open the gas filler door, remove the gas cap and look in the tank to see of the gas gauge is giving a false reading. It's a common problem.

I get 15 to 20 MPG with my 66 427/390 with 3:36 rear and cruise at 60 to 65 mph. Hope this gives you an idea of fuel consumption.

I checked my 69 427/390HP, Auto, 3:08 on a highway trip a couple years ago and got 17MPG. That was Imperial gallons too and not US. Hope this helps.
