C2 67 master cylinder cap bails finish?

Hi guys, haven't received my NCRs book yet so I will ask you guys the question.

My master cylider bails seem to be painted gray, what should be the correct finish on the them. No Power brakes car.

Ed. The bails should be natural. The top is cad yellow and the body of the master cylinder is s/g black.

Well my master cylinder and bails are painted s/g gray. Whats the best way to repaint it correctly? I have never worked on brakes before, is it difficult to take the master cylinder of and refinish it? Would I have to bleed the brakes or can I just bolt it back up and refill it with brake fluid? Anybody out there that any of you guys recommend to rebuild & refinish it? I think if I repaint over the gray you will not be able to se the DC anymore.

Hi Ed.

It's hard for me to recommend how you should restore it because I'm in the midst of a body off restoration, so it's easy for me. I just unbolted it from the firewall. Someone more technical than me will have to help you with that one. However, for classic cars that are driven sparingly, the brake fluid should be changed at least every other year, so maybe you could change your brake fluid and remove your master cylinder at the same time.

I disassemblied the unit, then I bought a rebuilt kit from Paragon and rebuilt it. Then I lighly media blasted the outside of the m/c. I repainted it with the brake line attachment holes covered and the top opening taped off. It came out great. I'll shoot a photo for you and send it to you if you would like.

Mask-off the flat area where the "DC" stamp is.
Originals were a machined surface anyway.
