1978 marked the change in size from alphanumeric GR70-15 to P-metric with P225/70R-15 base and P255/60R-15 optional.

IIRC this may have also been the year that GY became the sole OE tire supplier (though it may be later), which continues to this day.

The best GY replacement tire is the V-rated RSA, which is available in a 225/70R-15 and is one of three available in this size (General XP2000V4 and Firestone PV41 are the other two) "police pursuit tires" used by police and emergency vehicles.

Yes...Good Year was the only distributor of tires for the Corvette in 1978 which included the Polyspare.
