    1966 alternator

I'm trying to determine the correct color for the spacer ring between the front and back casing. I believe it's black but I've seen some rebuilds with red. If anybody knows the original color and paint code please let me know.

    Thanks - Dwane

    Dwane-----

That's not a "spacer" between the drive end case half (front) and the split ring case half (rear)----it's part of the stator which is one of the main functional parts of the alternator. On SI series alternators (69+), the exposed surface was either natural steel or coated with a slightly reddish insulating "varnish" used on the stator. On the DN series used for 63-68, I thought the stator was the same as later, but, I suppose, it may have been coated differently. I don't know why they would have painted this edge black, though. No other part of the stator is painted black.
