I am rebuilding a L-89 aluminum head 427 motor. Most original parts came with the motor and car but no distributor. Is there a specific distributor that needs to go with this motor or will most any corvette tach drive distributor work? I was told even a small block distributor would work. What do I need and how do I identify it if it is something special. I'd like it to be as close to original as possible.

Re: Distributor 1968 L-89 big block
Ted - it depends on if you are after function or originality. The L89 would have come with the K66 TI distributor and electronics. You don't comment if you have that in the car. Any Corvette distributor can be set up with this or a points trigger will work....and all will interchange. Having said that, depending on your engine internals, you would want to match the distributor shaft and advance weights/springs as close as possible to the engine advance curve requirements. These specs are in books, and you can have a competent shop set up a distributor with the specs. You can also contact Dave Feidler at TI specialty...and buy one outright set up correctly as long as you are willing to open up your wallet. He does great work.....Craig- Top
