With a new paint job, usually you don't want to do anything to it in the first few months. You want the paint to completely finish drying (outgassing). You don't want to seal it with a wax.

Ask the body shop. They'll know for sure.

I just received my 68 back from the shop with a new paint job and was told the same advice by the shop as posted by Chris Ritchie: do nothing to the paint for several months to let it cure and outgas.

I was more worried about road ****,bugs and fingerprints etc. the typical stuff you get everytime you take it out for a drive.

          Gary,

For those first few months I would keep the paint as clean as possible. Wash bugs and bird droppings off ASAP using a detailer and 100% clean cotton towel or microfiber towel if you can't do a regular wash. When you wash the car use only soap meant for car washing and a 100% cotton wash mit and drying towel or microfiber drying towel. Visit carcareonline.com for some good advise as to product choice and use.

Thanks Wayne, It has been over 5 months since the car was painted but I just picked it up Friday of last week, Other restoration work was being done so when you say "months" are you talking up to 5-6 months or 6+?

              Gary,

I would say you're safe to do some paint cleaning and waxing. Check out that website for some optins. Here is another good one. properautocare.com

hence is the reason I'm asking there's a thousand brands available and I'm sure there's some better than others that fellow members already tried and past judgement on.

                  Gary,

For cleaning the paint I pesonally like 3M Imperial Hand Glaze followed with either 3M Show Car Paste Wax or Harly Paste Wax. Both waxes are carnauba. The Harly wax is eassier to use but the 3M seems to last longer. P21 also makes a good cleaner and finishing wax.
