I'm putting in a new fuel pump in my '66 small block today. I recently read a good article on how to keep the pump push rod in position while installing the pump. It involved using an unused bolt in the front of the engine to hold it in place. Anyone remember reading it recently, and can tell me where to find it?

Also, use thread sealer on the original short (3/8"-16 x 1/2") bolt when you re-install it in the front upper boss, or you'll have a slight oil leak. Also helps to set #1 at TDC (doesn't matter which stroke) first, as the fuel pump drive lobe on the cam will have the pushrod on the base circle to minimize the battle against the spring-loaded pump lever while positioning the pump to get the bolts started.- Top
