66 Radio speaker and transformer, Source??

I ordered a new speaker and transformer for my 66 vette, from corvette central. When I hook up the new speaker I get low volume, with the old speaker volume is normal. Is there a better source for speakers and can I buy the transformer seperate?

Why not just have the old speaker reconed and use it? The impedence of the reproduction speaker is off from what the radio was designed for. My radio man said this will cause amplifier problems in a C2 radio in a short time.

Thanks, everyone. It looks like I'll give long island a call. I do not have my origional to recone. Does anyone know a source for the speaker transformer?

          Bill:

The speaker from LICS comes complete with the transformer (?) attached. Check the archives, but I seem to remember that the impedance should be 10 ohms. My speaker (from LICS) has been working just fine. If your speaker has insufficient impedance, you will overheat and eventually burn out the output transistor, which is that nickel sized "button" attached directly to the heat sink on the back of the radio.
